stickers project

My latest project came to life on a trip to NYC in February of 2020. I went to see an exhibit of the work of famed street artist JR at the Brooklyn Museum. I stayed at my daughters’ apartment in Chinatown. For years I have collected shots of street art in all the cities I traveled to. I noticed in many cases that same art would disappear as buildings were torn down, cleaned up or renovated. I realized I was capturing images that were temporary. That needed to be preserved and shared in some way to make them permanent. On this particular trip I conceived the idea of focusing on sticker art. I was only in NYC for 24 hours, but I managed to cover 20 miles by foot and capture 100’s of images. I then chose a “canvas” from these images and set about creating a collage that would include all of these stickers in an effort to memorialize their beauty, message or artistic excellence. I then print them as giant stickers that folks can by and enjoy. I love them because they require examination by the viewer. You can spend hours or revisit over and over to discover new images.

I did the same thing in May in Philadelphia. Also displayed below. Working on Chicago and Puerto Rico currently. I can’t wait to create.
